DESEC TRACKLAYER ACTIVE FOR RAIL BALTICA

Today, the construction works on the 28 km of Rail Baltica from Šestokai to Marijampole in Lithuania have been started. The DESEC Tracklayer will be essential in carrying out the modification from the usual 1524 mm track gauge into the Western European 1435 mm track gauge. Rail Baltica currently is one of the most important railway projects in Europe which aims to link the Baltic states and Poland better with the Western EU-countries. Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, Latvia and Finland shall thus strengthen their status as important transit countries and offer a reasonable and environmentally friendly alternative to the road transport. The development and reorganization of the overall 950 km from Warsaw to Helsinki are planned to be completed in 2015.
